Bezos: Tech billionaire, investor and space touristThanks to Amazon, Jeff Bezos is one of the world’s richest people. In 1994, Jeff Bezos left his job at hedge fund D.E. Shaw and founded Amazon in Seattle with his then-wife MacKenzie. Amazon started out as an online bookstore but grew to become one of the largest e-commerce retailers, cloud computing providers, logistics, and digital streaming companies. In 2021, Jeff Bezos moved from being Amazon’s CEO to Executive Chairman, while retaining ownership of 9.6% of Amazon. Among other investments, Amazon’s success forms the basis of Bezos’ wealth. As of May 2025, his wealth is estimated at $215 billion. We take a look at whether his wealth is managed through a Jeff Bezos family office.Jeff Bezos’ main investmentsAs we have seen above, most of Jeff Bezos’ wealth comes from his business success. Throughout his career, he has made several large investments that have become part of his empire. Bezos’s portfolio includes the acquisition of the Washington Post, which he bought for $250 million in 2013 and is now valued at $1.4 billion. He has also invested more than $8 billion in the aerospace company Blue Origin, which took him into space in 2021. His real estate holdings exceed $400 million, with homes in prime locations such as Washington D.C., New York, and Beverly Hills. Outside of business, Bezos has pledged $10 billion to climate initiatives through the Bezos Earth Fund, of which $2 billion has been granted to date. The family office not only manages Bezos’ philanthropic efforts through the Bezos Family Foundation and the Day One Fund, as well as his major investments such as The Washington Post and Blue Origin, but also actively invests in startups at various stages.
